Redefining Kingdom Sound: The Rise of Zay Miles

ree

Born into a pastor’s family, Zay Miles spent most of his life in church — yet, as he puts it, “time doesn’t always indicate truth.” Despite being surrounded by faith, Zay felt spiritually numb, disconnected from the traditions and routines he saw around him.

His teenage years became a search for identity — in relationships, parties, sports, and temporary escapes that only deepened the emptiness inside. When his family faced divorce and the world shut down during the pandemic, it felt like everything was crumbling.

But in that lowest moment, something life-changing happened. “At 19 years old, God chased me down,” Zay says. “I didn’t just want to come to Jesus — I wanted to change my life.”

After months of depression and hopelessness, Zay encountered Jesus in a way that was real, raw, and personal. “He took sports, partying, and my reputation away, and replaced it with music,” he recalls. “Finding God and music at the same time was the greatest honeymoon experience I could’ve had. God welcomed me with all my flaws, insecurities, and questions — and threw a party for me when I entered His Kingdom.”

Now based in Oklahoma City by way of Tucson, Arizona, Zay is redefining what Kingdom hip-hop and R&B sound like. His music blends rap, R&B, Afrobeats, and worship, creating a diverse soundtrack that speaks to the struggles and triumphs of real life.

Zay’s lyrics explore spiritual renewal, self-denial, love in a lust-driven culture, and the ongoing tension between flesh and faith. But at the heart of it all is his story — one of redemption, purpose, and relentless grace.

“This isn’t the ‘my life’s been perfect since I found Jesus’ type of music,” Zay says. “It’s about every season — the struggles, the victories, and everything in between — and creating an anthem for those moments.”

With over 85 songs released in just two years, Zay Miles is becoming one of the leading voices in the Oklahoma Kingdom music movement. His journey reminds us that when God changes the song, He also changes the story.
